When planning my first trip to Paris my main aim was to get somewhere central so that our short weekend break was not full of hopping on and off metros. A French friend of mine recommended les halles as a district to stay in and I am delighted to say that, for what we wanted, she was right. We only took the metro once (to get to the eiffel tower). Otherwise, we walked everywhere.... shopping, to the louvre, to the river boats on the seine, to restaurants etc. The rooms were small and basic but very clean. The shower room was more than adequate (and very clean) with excellent water pressure and hot water all day long. For someone who wants luxury and pampering, you will have to look elsewhere (and pay mega bucks) but if, like me, you dislike paying a fortune for weekend break hotels that you just sleep in at night .... and rather somewhere central BUT CLEAN that is moderately priced, this place is great. I would definately stay here again and will gladly recommend it to any like minded friends.

This is a wonderful little hotel for the budget traveller. Excellent location - very near (two blocks from) the Les Halles metro/RER station and within short walking distance to the Louvre. The rooms are very clean with new bathrooms and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again.

We arrived from London by Eurostar and got the metro from Gare du Nord to Chatelle Les Halles then walked to the hotel. Easy to find. hotel and room exactly as I expected from the website and reviews. Small but clean, confortable and charming. Excellent location, walked to Louvre, Notre Dam, Seine cruise etc and close to at least 2 metro stations. Has a very narrow, windy staircase (like the tower of london one) so be prepared to carry your luggage up and down tiny stairs. Our room had what appeared to be the original ceiling beams (it's a 17th Century building) and very high ceilings which stop the room feeling claustophobic despite it's small size. Staff friendly, helpful and spoke at least some English. Loved it and would highly recommend except to someone looking for more space and luxury in a room in which case you'd have to pay a lot more.

We wanted to stay in central Paris , to enable us to walk to all the main sights. This is a great little hotel positioned just behind the Forum des Halles shopping centre, and just a few minutes walk from the Pompidou Centre and the Louvre. It's only 2 stars, and the room was tiny, however the bathroom was roomy and well fitted and everything was clean and spotless. The reception and lounge areas are small but really nicely decorated. I think this hotel was really good value, and the only downside for some will be the lack of a lift. But there is only 3 floors, so I didn't think it mattered and the staff where really friendly and helpful.

For the price, I doubt there is a better hotel within five minutes walk of the Pompidou Centre, the Seine , ten minutes from the Louvre etc. The staff were fantastic - very welcoming, always smiling, totally against the Parisien stereotype. The area is bustling with a huge selection of cafes, bars and bistrots on the doorstep - the ones we tried were uniformly excellent. We usually stay in more expensive hotels elsewhere, but Hotel du Cygne is one third of the price of the Novotel ( 200 metres away) and the difference in price cannot be worth paying. I would recommend this hotel to anyone except those with mobility problems (steep staircases) and those expecting full-on luxury.
